Sound installations, dance and wearable sculptures constitute the structure of a research that focuses on the relationship between technological progress and corporeality.
The mechané was a sort of crane used in Greek theater to lift actors into the air, simulating their flight. For this reason it was often functional to represent the intervention of a god on the scene, hence the Latin expression Deus ex machina ("God from the machine").
Since its inception, technology can be considered as an attempt to overcome the boundaries of the body, or expand them towards horizons that arouse feelings between terror and fascination.
Neuroscience, brain-computer interfaces and Artificial Intelligence are contributing, like the fields of prosthetics and biotechnology, to a profound and radical upheaval in the codified classification of embodied subjects.
Mechanè draws inspiration from a reflection on the future scenarios outlined by Posthumanists and Transhumanists, from the idea of a perfectible human being in terms of efficiency, power, comfort, lifespan, up to reaching a dimension of immortality. What is the relationship between technological progress and the most authentic flavor of human experience (impulse, momentum, unpredictability, rebellion, chaos)?
The artists will present a study on creation on Sunday 7 July at 9pm entry by invitation and reservation only: info@alfonsogatto.org
