Whether we like it or not, stories are written in chapters that tell of people who alleviate the suffering of others or impose all sorts of fates upon them in order to change. It's impossible to foresee any other kind of path in relationships that seem to circle back to the same thing.

In this work, I'm interested in talking about groups and the arrow that guides them. I connect this to the history of the land where I was born and raised. By going beyond the specifics, I aim to describe how History is cyclical and complex.

Without being aware of it, much of my life unfolded in lands that, like so many others, were once conquered. My limitations weren't just mine; they were the legacy of many who lost their voice and disguised it, the legacy of those who remained silent and submitted to new horizons.

I don't know how or when the idea of embracing the strange period of conquest arose. At what time and why did nature, always so predictable, gather ideas, rites, and customs, confront them, and give way to a new order? A new defeat: entropy.

The trajectories, always so unique, were traced around peoples who ended up destroying themselves to give rise to others. Abolish every system that doesn't restrain, and give rise to a new pattern.
The aim is not to reproduce history, nor even to take a stance on it; it is simply to understand how evolution devours. To survive is to move forward in a new direction, despite its costs.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

This is a choreographic project created and directed by Daniel Abreu from the Canary Islands, which projects onto the bodies of the performers landscapes of light, word, and sound from his place of origin. Collaboration with dancers from the islands will be essential to this work.

Following an interest in choreographic creation and the impossibility of offering a personal vision of dance, the company delves into a new narrative universe through dance, always supported by this philosophical and psychological vision of human existence. The recreation of a scenario where the performers coexist with the historical events of the conquests of the territory, viewed with respect and acceptance of what has been and is.

Returning to the Canary Islands and creating with a team comprised mostly of islanders combines a sense of justice with the existing talent, which enriches the process with a unique perspective and, therefore, the final result. There is much to contribute from the island experience and its accompanying history. In recent years, the company has confirmed this, and this path seems unavoidable.

Thus, a visually powerful work emerges, accompanied by a soundscape that incorporates live music to fuse contemporary and traditional sounds.
