There is a consensus among the press, programmers, the public, and his own colleagues that Marco Mezquida is one of the brightest and most promising newcomers to the European music scene and an artist destined to conquer any imaginable stage in the world.
Born in Menorca in 1987, he graduated from the Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña in 2009. Since then, he has developed a dazzling musical career with a personal eclecticism and versatility that has led him to perform in 40 countries on four continents with his own projects. He has also been invited by an extensive list of top-tier artists to make recordings and perform in concerts at the most important festivals and venues in Europe, as well as in Asia and the Americas.
At the age of 36, Mezquida has recorded 95 albums: 27 albums as leader and/or co-leader of his own projects, in which he cultivates his talents as a composer, improviser, and performer, and he has recorded 68 more albums as a sideman or collaborator on numerous projects. His musical versatility always shows him capable of naturally combining popular and classical music in a personal blend of diverse genres, ranging from jazz, free improvisation, classical, baroque, and contemporary music, to rock, folklore, and flamenco.
He has received twenty awards for his musical, recording, and concert work: Premi Núvol 2023 for his album 'Tornado'; two Alicia Awards from the Catalan Academy, in 2023 for his project 'Bach & Forward' and in 2021 for his album 'Talismán'; five Enderrock Awards for best jazz album of the year for various albums; the Jury and Audience Award at the BMW Welt Jazz Award in Munich in 2022; the City of Barcelona Award in 2019 for his album "No hay dos sin tres"; and he has been named Musician of the Year by the Association of Jazz and Modern Musicians of Catalonia four times. Altaveu Award winner in 2015, and chosen Menorcan of the Year in 2018.
He has performed and/or recorded alongside great singers such as Silvia Pérez Cruz, Salvador Sobral, Andrea Motis, Eliseo Parra, Noa, Alfonso de Vilallonga, Carme Canela, and Celeste Alías, and has performed alongside jazz legends such as Lee Konitz, Dave Liebman, Michel Camilo, Bill McHenry, Elliot Zigmund, Jorge Rossy, Billy Hart, Bill Dobbins, Perico Sambeat, and a long list of great musicians and projects in which he has been an active part over the years.
