Swan Lake is one of the most iconic and beloved works of the classical repertoire, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Premiered in 1877, it tells the story of love and tragedy between Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette, who has been transformed into a swan by the evil sorcerer Von Rothbart.
Act I
Prince Siegfried celebrates his birthday in the palace gardens. During the celebration, his mother reminds him that he must choose a wife at the upcoming royal ball. Siegfried, overwhelmed by this responsibility, retreats to the forest with his friends.
Act II
In the forest, Siegfried discovers an enchanted lake and a group of swans that, at dusk, transform into women. The leader of the swans, Odette, reveals that she and her companions are under a spell cast by Von Rothbart, which will only be broken if a young man swears to love her and be faithful to her forever. Siegfried, in love with Odette, promises to free her.
Act III
At the royal ball, Von Rothbart appears in disguise with his daughter Odile, who has been transformed to resemble Odette. Siegfried, deceived by Odile's appearance, declares his love for her and pledges his loyalty. Realizing his mistake, he realizes that he has condemned Odette to be a swan forever.
Act IV
Desperate, Siegfried returns to the lake to beg Odette's forgiveness. Despite his regret, the spell seems unbreakable. But the love of Odette and Siegfried will bring about the defeat of Von Rothbart and the liberation of Odette and her companions.
