We'll listen to wonderful jazz singers from Ella Fitzgerald, Blossom Dearie, Sarah Vaughan, and Cecil McLorin, and we'll discuss their songs, their history, and the stories they tell us through their lyrics, all in a selection of the most important standards. We'll discuss the history of these songs, their composers, their origins, and how they became part of the jazz world. We'll discuss the themes of the lyrics, comparing them with poems by other authors.
Javier Estrella Ruiz is the founder and director of the Madrid Jazz Festival (1980-2013), where he had the opportunity to interact with great musicians and jazz icons. He is also the founder and director of the Aranjuez Early Music Festival since 1994 and director of the SGAE Jazz Eñe Foundation program, dedicated to the internationalization of Spanish jazz. Deputy Director of Theater at the INAEM (Ministry of Culture 1983-1989) and Director of Culture of the State Society of the Fifth Centenary (1989-1993), among other activities.
Irene Estrella Alcorta combines design, cultural management, and teaching at IED Madrid and UNED. She holds a degree in Comparative Literature (University of Granada), a Master's degree in Artistic, Literary, and Cultural Studies (Autonomous University of Madrid), and a Master's degree in Teacher Training (International University of Valencia). She is the director of the Mujeres, Patrimonio de Sigüenza music festival, a project that promotes the role of women in music. She is the co-founder of the Estrella Baigorri graphic design studio.
