American Pop tells the story of four generations of a family of Russian Jewish immigrants, all musicians whose careers chronicle the history of American pop music. Most of the film's animation was done through rotoscoping, a process in which real actors are filmed and later images are used by animators to draw them. However, the film also uses a variety of other mixed media techniques such as watercolor, computer graphics, live-action photos and archival footage. The rise and growth of American popular music throughout the 20th century is reflected in the lives of four generations of one family in this animated drama. Zalmie (voiced by Jeffrey Lippa), a Jew from Russia, emigrates to America, and tries to make it as a comedian and musician in vaudeville, until an injury sustained in World War I ends his singing career. His son Benny (voiced by Richard Singer) inherits his father's love of music, and when he grows up, he joins a jazz combo as a pianist; His career is interrupted, however, when he is killed while fighting in World War II. Benny's son, Tony (voiced by Ron Thompson) also has the musical bug and is determined to make his mark as a composer.

The screening will be on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Espacio La Granja (Santa Cruz de Tenerife).
