Companhia do Chapitô presents “JULIO CÉSAR”, a theatrical creation based on events from the life of this historical figure, immortalized by great storytellers, from Plutarch to Shakespeare. The 39th collective creation in its repertoire continues to explore comedy as a language to reinvent history.

Julius Caesar was a Roman general and statesman. A member of the First Triumvirate, he led the Roman armies in the conquest of Gaul before defeating his political rival Pompey in the context of the civil war. He later proclaimed himself perpetual dictator of Rome, a position he held for a short time, as he was assassinated by a group of senators who considered him a threat to the Republic.

Inspired by the popular imagination of representations of Rome and the remarkable figure that was Julius Caesar, exploring historical inconsistencies and taking liberties in the treatment of documented facts - with the lack of rigor that already characterizes the Companhia do Chapitô - here is the deconsecration of another historical monster: Julius Caesar.

Was he a tyrant who deserved to die or a hero brutally murdered by conspirators?

Let the Devil come and choose. Here there are no heroes or villains, there are circumstances and clever people who make a living. There are also less clever people who do what they are told. And virtuous people who do what needs to be done. We drag everyone along equally.

Between historical reconstruction, documentary and parody, here we have another original creation by the Companhia do Chapitô.
