The Gran Canaria Wind Orchestra inaugurates the 10th season of concerts under the baton of José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana with a concert inspired by painting. The program, which premieres for the first time in the Canary Islands at the Pérez Galdós Theater, is titled 'Pictures from an Exhibition' by the Russian composer Igor Mussorgsky, under the instrumentation of José Schyns.
Mussorgsky composed this work inspired by ten paintings and drawings included in a posthumous exhibition by his great friend, the artist and architect Viktor Hartmann  who was only 39 years old when he died. As a tribute, the composer wanted to "draw in music" some of the paintings on display.
The Gran Canaria Wind Orchestra, a group born from the concern for professional improvement, has been promoted by a group of outstanding professionals from the island's geography, who have altruistically come together for a common objective: the transmission of sensations through of the maximum interpretive demand that a wind orchestra requires.
The orchestra is composed of all the specialties of wind, percussion, cellos and double basses, giving a mix of textures and timbres through which the objective that the Gran Canaria Wind Orchestra has as its flag is achieved, which is to offer its audience good music. It is a versatile formation, where everything from small chamber groups to the large wind orchestra with choir can be accommodated. The repertoire becomes an inexhaustible source of resources for the cultural offer to move all types of audiences. Adding as an attraction works not previously performed and premiered in the Canary Islands.
